Dev Diary (0.03a)


  Hey! I've been working on the next update on the last few days after our 0.02a release. And as much as I want to show what I have so far, it's mostly related to the code and how the event logic will work, but I figured I might talk a little about it and show where I want to take the project into its next steps.


Gameplay Loop

  As we've seen from the game's introduction, it was mostly played as a Visual Novel, with some choices that led the scenes into a few different variations. But, starting from the next update, the game will get into a style that will give the player more freedom to decide what events they want to see first.

  The way this'll work is that we'll have a 'main hub' for where the player will decide what to do. And this 'hub' is the CAO's office, of course.

  From there, one of the main things the player will be able to do is to access the Academy's Cameras. This will take us to another screen, where we'll see where and who has an event around the Academy.

  This is just a placeholder screen for now, there will be some improvements and other places will be added, but as we can see, it shows that Haruka and Maiya have an event at the Gym, while Ayumi has an event at the Pool. While there are Secondary Events at the Gym and at the Academy's Main Entrance. The Secondary Events will mostly involve other students or teachers.

  When we click on a location that has one of such events, we'll go to the said location camera feed and see what is happening there. And, then, the scenes will play out in a similar way that we saw during the game's introduction, with a detailed scene happening and, of course, with choices that the player can take to decide what the outcome of the scene will be.

  There will also be events that can happen automatically with no need to go into this camera screen. These will happen if some conditions are met, and will typically happen at the start or end of a day.


Secondary Actions

  Apart from the Events, there will also be some actions the player can take that will change the various stats the Academy has. This section is still under construction so there isn't much to say about it, but one of the things you could do with that is to interact with the students or staff members, either at your office or at the Academy Grounds.

For that, I've been setting up some character sprites to show these 'side interactions'.


  This is just to give a visual representation of the scene without having to create a whole detailed scene for every student. Of course, the event scenes will still be detailed and not done through 'character sprites'.

  With that being said, there is still some interesting things we could do with the 'Character Sprites', such as have different facial expressions or even different clothing.


  Each character will also have a 'routine' where they'll be at certain places at certain times, so that'll be where they can be found so that you could interact with them.



  You can find a student at a class and have small talk with them. Or, call them to your office to discuss some more in depth things.


Bounties

  Bounties are small quests that the player will receive throughout the playthrough. These will range from small and menial tasks to some more elaborate ones, and almost always will demand a sexual act. I've managed to develop the code to make it so that every act will count towards checking if a bounty is completed. There isn't anything to show, but the way it'll work is that if you have a bounty that request a student to perform a blowjob for example, then, any student performing a blowjob will complete that bounty, and it doesn't necessarily needs to happen through a main event scene, as there will still be some repeatable sex scenes with other students (Maybe not in the next update though).


Some other small things

I've also been playing with the maps and cleaning up some things to make them look slightly better. I'm not happy with how the Gym scenes look like as the shadows are very weird, also the scene with Ayumi and the Delinquents didn't had any map shadows. So I went through these maps and made some changes to make them look a little better.

  Anyway, that's what I've been doing after the 0.02a release. Once I'm set with all of these systems, I'll start filling up the events to get the game ready for the 0.03a release.

  Unfortunately you'll probably have to start a new save in the next version as there's a couple of changes that are not going to be save-game compatible. I'll try to avoid doing these things as much as possible, which is why I'll try to be careful to do everything I need to do now rather than later.
